REDUCING YOUR GAS BILL THIS WINTER.

Have you been giving your gas heating a serious workout this week? Slightly cringing at the thought of your impending gas bill? We’ve got some tips to keep that bill as low as possible.

STOP THE DRAFTS

Instantly reduce your heating costs by ensuring no drafts are entering the home. And yep, the fabric snake-like thing you had in your home growing up still has a very valid place in your home today – they cost next to nothing and will ensure a reduction in your gas bill.

INSULATE AND THINK SAVVY

Keep the cold out, and the warmth in by insulating. While it may be a larger initial outlay – ensure that you have wall and ceiling insulation in your home. Thick curtains will help stop the warm air escaping through the windows, and the cold air coming in. Close the doors to rooms that are not in regular use. Get yourself a rug to cover floor boards, tiles or polished concrete and stop the cold air penetrating up through the floors.

GET THE RIGHT SIZE HEATER FOR YOUR HOME

Measure your room before you go shopping and speak to a heating specialist to ensure you choose the correct sized heater for your home. Insulation, ceiling height, number or windows and floor coverings will all work together to determine the correct heating system for your home so ensure you convey this information. An overworked heater will be very costly.

KEEP IT AT 20 DEGREES AND LEARN TO LOVE SOCKS

Ensure you don’t set your heating thermostat above 20 degrees. Or lower if you feel comfortable. For ever degree lower you heat your home, you can save up to 10% of your energy use!

If your feet are cold, your whole body will be cold. So rug up with socks, appropriate clothing and snuggle on the couch with a blanket.

SHOW YOUR HEATER SOME LOVE

Give your heater some attention before you are relying too heavily on it. Just like a car, your heater needs a regular service to ensure it is in tip top working condition. During a service, your plumber will check all components for wear and tear and ensure it is working efficiently as possible and won’t break down when you need it most. Checking the flue, thermostat, filters and hoses, fan, heat exchanger, pilot light and carbon monoxide – will ensure your family stay warm and safe this winter.
